Official Country Fest Single
30th May 2008
Country Music legend George Jones was
knocked out by the ‘beautiful voice’of
Irish superstar Jimmy Buckley when the two
met for a special recording session at
studios in the world-famed Music Row,
Nashville last week. ‘Ol Possum’ as George
Jones is affectionately known flew into
Nashville especially to re-record one of his
famous hits ‘The Grand Tour’ as a duet with
Ireland’s leading country music star Jimmy
Buckley – a lifelong fan of the country
legend!
Said Jimmy Buckley: “The Grand Tour was George Jones 6th No.1 back in 1974 - when I recorded my own version as a tribute to the great man never did I for a moment think that one day I might be standing in a Nashville studio singing it as a duet with him! I was nervous at first but George’s enthusiasm was very encouraging and the whole experience has been a highlight of my professional career to date!”
The recording session was arranged through George’s Manager Reggie Mac who passed on a copy of Buckley’s version of ‘The Grand Tour’ to the singer. George Jones was so impressed that he invited the Irish Singer to Music City for the recording session. Other musicians featured on the recording include steel player Bruce Broughton (Garth Brooks band) and top Nashville Producer Buddy Wyatt.
It has been revealed that George Jones is considering featuring the track on one of his forthcoming albums.
Said George Jones Manager Reggie Mac: “George is more than impressed with the recording of the track. God willing we would love to feature it on one of the albums George is planning for the future.”
George Jones is the former husband of Tammy Wynette. He has won Country Music Association Male Vocalist of the Year twice, is a grammy award winner and a member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1956. George Jones has had over 170 country hits since 1955 including ten Number 1 solo hits and three with Tammy.
Irish Star Jimmy Buckley will join up with Jones on 3rd and 4th August on stage at the UTV CountryFest 08, which takes place at the Peoples Park Dungannon.

2007 News

2007 was a hugely successful and busy year for Jimmy and his band. He toured extensively in Ireland and England and Cruised the Mediterranean on a Star Packed Show. Packed out Cadiz in Spain for a week and had a hugely successful Tennessee Border Tour, taking in Nashville, Branson and Memphis.
Jimmy was live on Ireland AM and it was a great success.
Jimmy has definitely had a hectic summer, he toured all over Ireland playing at gig’s, concerts, festival’s and carnivals’s during the summer months, all that and he returned once again to Cadiz in Portugal for a fun filled trip appearing with Brendan Shine, Garry Gamble and top comedian and Jimmy’s good friend Conal Gallen. The trip was sold out and a good time was had by all, with everyone enjoying the fantastic weather that managed to give us all in England and Ireland the Slip.
After a packed weekend in Ireland if was once again time to pack the suit case and Jimmy and the boys caught a plane to Rome for an All Star Irish Mediterranean Cruise appearing with Jimmy, over 40 top Country and Irish Music stars, including Robert Mizzell, Mike Denver, Declan Nerney, Mick Flavin, Dominic Kirwan, Patrick Feeney, Michael English and the Showband Show to name a few. All this entertainment along with ports of call to Monte Carlo, Saint Tropez, Marseilles and Naples, truly a wonderful trip.
Jimmy and the boys hardly had time to unpack the suit case as they headed off to the USA for Jimmy’s Tennessee Border Tour of which Nashville, Memphis and Branson are on the list of stops. Jimmy is of course very excited about the tour but is especially looking forward to Nashville where he will be performing, he is also performing in Branson and he is especially looking forward to visiting the home of the King one of Jimmy’s idol’s ELVIS.
Talking to Jimmy he is just thrilled to be traveling to such fantastic places and he said it hardly seems like work at all. He is blessed to be working with so many top recording stars and meeting so many friends and fans and doing what he loves best, entertaining.
Jimmy’s DVD was aired once again in the USA and Canada and his management office is inundated with emails requesting to purchase copies of the DVD and asking when he will be touring in America. Jimmy has been asked by singing legend Charlie Pride to perform with him which will be happening in 2008. Jimmy manager Henry McMahon says all the emails received from America are praising Jimmy for his unique singing talents and the excellent production of the DVD 'Live In Concert'.
Jimmy’s DVD and CD’s Live In Concert Vol 1 & Vol 2 continue to sell on a large scale.
